The Family Team Meeting is a planned event that brings together (a) family, (b) interested people, such as friends, neighbors, community members, and (c) formal resources, such as child welfare, mental health, domestic violence, education and other agencies that the family has invited. During the facilitated process the team: learns what the family hopes to accomplish, sets reasonable and meaningful goals, recognizes and affirms the family strengths and needs, assesses family needs, finds solutions to meet family needs, designs individualized supports and services that match the family's needs and builds on their strengths, agrees on next steps and sets up accountability supports. After the end of this training, participants will learn how to conduct preparation interviews with the family and family team meeting participants, and how to facilitate the family team meeting process. This class addresses question #2-increasing student achievement in the classroom by providing an effective and comprehensive process to involve the family in identifying solutions to barriers that are effecting student learning.
